Does it really matter?

Is there dark matter that holds galaxies together or not? Is this something we really need to know? Will it effect how my Wheaties fall out of the box and into the bowl. Come on, there isn't enough matter in the universe to hold galaxies together so it must be some other type of matter, dark matter can't see taste or touch but its there. Who say's science and religion don't get along? Oh but wait, if you can pull the old dark matter trick out of the hat than surely the modified gravity theory works just as well. You know the one where if condition A,B, and C is equal to D unless L is present than A, B and C = X. Oh yes that works very nicely. I think todays science is based on information provided by that little Martian guy from the Looney Toones. :)

Than there is the lost book of Nostradamus. I watched that last night on the History Channel. Lots of pretty pictures of predictions to happen in the next 4 years. Did this guy really have this fixation with Americans as the producers of this show seemed to think? Why does everything have to do with America, the Catholic Church and Muslims? I bet the rest of the world is sitting back going " Just get it over with so we can go back to normal "

I'm not to concerned about the lost book. After all, Nostradamus used words for his predictions not pictures.

Last night my grandson and I were talking when he told me that he thought one of his friends may have walked off with one of his toy cars. I asked " did you ask him about it "? He said he had but the little boy said he had not taken the car. Than my grandson said something that really concerned me. He said we should torture this little boy until he confessed. Torture I said, how do you do that? He than stated that we could lock him in a dark closet till he was so scared that he would tell where the toy was. Where did you hear about torture? In school he said, The President said it was ok to torture to get what you want.

I explained that torture does not get you what you want, and in fact really does not work. The person being tortured will say or agree to anything to stop the torture. Later, we found the car. I said are you glad we didn't torture the little boy?

Why am I discussing torture with an 8 year old anyways?

This madness has to stop.

Swim bladder infections. I didn't know fish had swim bladders! Apparently, the swim bladder can get infected very easily. In fact, looking over the web just about everything that happens to the aquarium fish effects its swim bladder.

So our fish all suffer from swim bladder infections. Hence the strange swimming behavior. Since the chemical balance in the tank is ok, and the water temps are within range I'll assume the twice per day feeding is the source of the problem. We are over feeding our fish.

We moved the stereo to a new shelf system yesterday. Originally it was sitting on a rather unstable $20 plastic shelf system we had purchased at K-Mart. Every time you would press a button on the stereo the whole shelf system wobbled. Walmart had a nice 5 shelf system made of glass, chrome and metal on clearance at a decent price so we picked one up. Last week we assembled the shelf. Took most of the day. Things do not come with clear instructions anymore. Yesterday we removed the 6 components from the plastic shelves wrestled the new and much heavier shelves into position and than returned the components to the shelves.

Before we could connect them we got side tracked. I had found an old Hitachi big screen tv on Craig's list really really cheap and the owner called to say he was going to deliver it. So we had to re-divert our energies to getting the little 20 inch tv disconnected and moved.

So, needless to say the stereo is still not all hooked up today, but we now get to watch our favorite shows and movies on a 55 inch screen. Its no where like the new stuff, but it is great for our needs. Everything is relative when you think about it. I really enjoy looking through Craig's list. It is as much fun as shopping ebay.

It turned cold last night walking the dog. Saturday we hit a high of 88 degrees. Today they are calling for mid 60's. What a change!

I think the fish ate one to many of their buddies. Wonder if there is such a thing as " mad fish disease "? Pale Rider, one of the Drifters now swims in tight little circles at full speed all the time. Goober, lurches forward in 1/2 inch burst while cleaning the glass. The rest of the Drifters all act strange blowing bubbles, and synchronized swimming.

I have not mentioned our yard. My wife has planted a large amount of flowers over the summer. Along with the flowers are the assorted statuary and solar light fixtures. We've set about a dozen little solar lighted things out in the yard but it wasn't until this morning that it occurred to me that these lights may be for another time zone than what we are currently living in. Why would I think that you say?

Every solar light we bought came with very explicit instructions. Those instructions were:

" Allow to charge for 24 hours before use ".

The sun never stays out for 24 hours in our time zone.

Speaking of instructions, I really like the simplified instructions the Chinese have come up with. Obviously all those years of writing fortune cookies has paid off. Read the instructions on Chinese fireworks: " Light fuse, and get away " No confusion there. Chinese maternity ward: " Spread legs and push " Chinese toy factory: " lead to Democracy " Sign on Chinese tank: " Protesters to front "

I had a lot of them this morning, but that was this morning.

Correction: Several post back, actually way back in the beginning I made a referance to the Hawking Effect. I errored that should of been Hawking Vapor or something like that.

Next month, I'll correct myself again.

Well the phone was really messed up. It turns out that not only was it messed up somewhere in a network box, but the phone itself had corrupt memory. They were unable to fix it. So today I got a new phone and new phone number. Talk about a double whammy.

I'll spend the day tomorrow redoing the contacts.

My phone is still messed up!! 3-7 days is what they're saying now. Bummers!

My fish are still dying. We are suspecting that ol' goober the sucker fish has acquired a taste for fresh fish. We have seen him chasing and attacking other fish. Pale Rider, one of the drifters is also high on the list. We are down to 1 neon tetra from 6, both SAE's are gone and 1 tiger tetra is gone. I've decided that if all the fish disappear and only goober is left, he'll be out on the front sidewalk with a little sign saying free fish. That does not necessarily mean that he'll be in water.

If they all die, than I think I'll try salt water and 2 clown fish.

2 years ago I purchased a really nice telescope. I've yet to really use it because I can't get the wheelchair up close enough to view through the eye piece. I have been debating now about spending $100 on a cmos camera for it. With the little camera I'd be able to view the night sky on my laptop. The only drawback there would be is my laptop is very very slow.

Its hard to make any decisions over a couple bucks when you live on a fixed income.

Monday, October 8, 2007

Well yesterday was the big day. Our new area code was started. Today my cell phone is useless. They have been warning us for months with recorded messages and text messages that the change would happen. However, its rather obvious now that they forgot to prepare themselves for the big changeover. From what I've heard mine is not the only phone with issues.

All the fish have settled in and we didn't suffer any losses. Although we probably rushed the process of introducing them to the tank. We had thought we lost the Siamese Algae Eaters but they took up house keeping inside the Pirate Shipwreck.

Its looking like we've got a full population in the tank now.

Friday, October 5, 2007

Well, we added 6 new striped Tetras and 2 Siamese Algae Eaters. The striped Tetras were a whole .37 cents each. Active and zippy little guys. We had stuck a plant in the tank a few weeks back and discovered that we now have red algae. The SAE's will eat red algae. Hence the reason for adding them.

We also noticed that the water smelled real bad!! Apparently our closed ecosystem was not doing very well after a month. So we spent a part of the day rebuilding the ecosystem. All the fish have perked up now. We'll need to do some more research on a natural method of maintaining the tanks ecosystem, but until than we've got some new chemicals to balance things out for now.

Goober's become aggressive towards the other fish. We'll need to figure out a program for him.

Where does time go? Ever wonder where time goes if you don't use it? Is it something we can store up and use later? That would be interesting. Don't have time to play today, however I've got 2 hours stored in my " time bank " we can play catch later.

Assuming that time goes out in one long stream would it be possible to have an event so large that it folds time like an accordion? Or is time sliced like a deck of cards one moment represented by each card? Than it would be possible to take time out of sequence, or to re-visit a period or section of time.

We race against the clock from the moment we are born. Sort of a reverse count down. Do we worship our watches? And if time goes by quickly if we're having fun, than would it not be that those people who suffer and do not enjoy life have more time?

What happened to the people Jesus raised from the dead? Did Lazarus die again? Or is he wandering the Earth today waiting for his just reward? Now that would be cruel twist of time.
